Man Injured and a Woman Died in Major Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 173
HESPERIA, CA (September 20, 2021) – A 50-year-old woman lost her life Wednesday evening after a head-on hit-and-run crash on SR-173.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. September 15, along SR-173 near the Mojave River Forks Regional Park.
According to the CHP, a gold-colored 2003 Buick Century was northbound on SR 173, crossed a double yellow line, and hit head-on with a 1999 Subaru Forester.
Emergency crews responded and declared the 50-year-old female passenger dead at the scene, meanwhile the driver, a 50-year-old man was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center with critical injuries.
In addition, officers said two child passengers, ages 10 and 12 had complaints of pain but were not seriously injured.
Following the crash, witnesses around the area said the suspect driver fled the scene by foot and left his Buick on the accident site.
CHP described the suspect as a white male adult last seen wearing a black beanie, black shirt, and blue jeans. He was described as 5’9″, having a slim build, approx. 60-65 years old and was wearing a watch on his right wrist.
Officials withhold the identities of the parties involved at this time. Authorities ask those with further information to call Victorville CHP at 760-241-1186.
