High-Speed Crash on 10 Freeway Leaves Man Dead
POMONA, CA (September 21, 2021) – One man lost his life Sunday morning following a high-speed crash on 10 Freeway in Pomona.
The accident happened around 12:45 a.m., on the westbound 10 Freeway, just east of Towne Avenue.
According to the CHP, a 31-year-old man was driving a 2007 Lexus IS 350 at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. When he made an unsafe right turn, he lost control of his vehicle.
As a result, he struck the freeway’s right shoulder concrete wall, causing the Lexus to travel southwest and overturn onto its passenger side.
Due to the severity of his injuries, responding officers pronounced the Lexus driver dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, debris from the crash went airborne and struck the front of a 2003 Honda Odyssey. However, all the occupants inside the Honda did not sustain any injuries.
Furthermore, the collision caused the temporary closure of four lanes on the westbound 10 Freeway from approximately 1:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., per the police.
At this time, police said alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash. However, an active investigation is still underway.
Officer J. Pena asked witnesses and anyone with additional information to call the CHP Baldwin Park Area at 626-338-1164.
