Fartbarf and Assquatch get Serious in Long Beach

Fartbarf and Assquatch get Serious

Fartbarf and Assquatch get Serious: “We thought it would be fun to mesh future and primitive,” Josh McLeod of synth-punks Fartbarf told us two years ago. “We’re these space neanderthals playing futuristic instruments, even though they’re kinda dated at this point. We came upon these masks from the ’40s at an old costume shop in Arizona that was closing, and I bought a lot of them. We wore them for hundreds and hundreds of shows until they started rotting off of our faces. Our current masks that we’ve had for a few years now, they’ve been custom-made by a Hollywood exec. We have a couple of spares, so hopefully we won’t lose them. It’s always on the back of our mind, though.”

People love those masks. But it never should be underestimated just how great the music is too. Somehow simultaneously retro and futuristic, the manipulated vocals adds to a wonderfully bizarre vibe. If you haven’t seen them yet, and you’re keep to party post-lockdown, head to Alex’s. The rest of the bill is killer too, with Wargirl, Assquatch and Drugs performing.

Fartbarf and Assquatch get Serious: The event takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 9 at Alex’s Bar.
