Two Men Arrested In Suspected Jewish ‘Hate Crime’ In Beverly Grove

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has made two arrests in a suspected hate crime caught on video outside a Beverly Grove restaurant.

The incident occurred Tuesday, May 18, as a group of diners were allegedly assaulted after pro-Palestinian protesters drove by and asked if any of them were Jewish. It is alleged that the attackers came from a pro-Palestinian protest that had just taken place.

The video showed multiple men in a brawl on the sidewalk of Sushi Fumi, and the two arrested suspects were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

“L.A. is a city of belonging, not of hate,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said of the attack. “There is simply no place for antisemitism, discrimination, or prejudice of any kind in Los Angeles. And we will never tolerate bigotry and violence in our communities.”

The suspects were 30-year-old Xavier Pabon from Banning and the second man was 35-year-old Samer Jayylusi from Whittier.

LAPD said they received multiple tips before arresting Pabon in a city outside of Los Angeles on Friday, May 21. Pabon’s bond was set at $275,000 and he was released on bail Sunday morning.

Jayylusi was found in Anaheim with his bail set at $255,000 with LAPD deciding to enhance both their bail for the crime being “motivated by hatred.”

While the investigation is ongoing, both their cases will be presented for consideration by the L.A. District Attorney sometime this week.
