Dead Daisies on Rolling Stones

Dead Daisies on Rolling Stones: Glenn Hughes, currently of hard rock supergroup the Dead Daisies and formerly of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath among others, told us about an early Rolling Stones experience.

Glenn Hughes: My first memories of a show on a major scale would be May 27, 1964 with the Rolling Stones at the Danilo Theater in Cannock Staffordshire, England. I was learning the guitar at the time, it was a very inspiring event that kept me on the path to learn more.

I recall mass hysteria from the audience which meant I could barely hear the music coming from the stage — so I was trying to study the hand movements of Brain and Keef, to work out what chords they were playing. The Set list as I remember was mostly covers of American blues numbers.

I was taken aback by the different personalities on stage but how they all came together to work as one. Bill Wyman standing still with his bass neck practically vertical, Brian and Keef making their signature moves, Mick with his one of a kind flare and showmanship, and last but not least Charlie Watts who kept a steady groove all the way through and in my opinion, one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Who would have thought that 10 years after this concert, Mick and I would become friends.

I was deeply saddened by the recent passing of Charlie Watts — he was always very gracious and kind when I was in his company. A true Gentleman.
