Indoor mask mandates will return to L.A. County this week as daily COVID-19 cases continue to increase.
The mandate will apply to both vaccinated and unvaccinated people starting at 11:59 p.m. this Saturday, July 17.
“This is an all-hands-on-deck moment,” L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said Thursday.
The current mask regulations ask that unvaccinated individuals wear masks in public indoor situations with businesses having the option of incorporating universal mask usage in their establishments, ask for proof of vaccination, or ask for self-attestment of vaccination.
News of the coming mask mandate comes exactly a month after California celebrated its “Grand Reopening” lifting most mask mandates, social distancing measures and business capacity limits.
The mandate is stricter than the California order and the CDC’s recommendation, but counties are allowed to order stricter measures.
In the last 7 days, L.A. County averaged more than 1,000 daily positive COVID-19 cases, with 1,537 cases coming in Thursday.
