Fatal DUI Collision Results in Fatality; Driver Arrested
GALT, CA (July 23, 2021) – Sunday morning, 65-year-old Debra Arnette Jackson, was killed after a series of collisions on Highway 99.
The crash happened on the northbound lanes of Highway 99, between Twin Cities and Mingo Road around 5:14 a.m.
Initially, a 2005 Ford Mustang crashed on the southbound lanes of the highway. As a result, the impact sent debris across the northbound lanes.
Shortly after, a 63-year-old Ione woman driving a Toyota Corolla northbound struck the metal debris.
Afterwards, Jackson’s Chevy Malibu also drove through the incident. Both the Corolla and Malibu came to a stop on the right shoulder of the Highway.
Jackson exited her vehicle to speak to the Corolla driver. Meanwhile, a 43-year-old Sacramento man driving a northbound Camry spotted the debris and swerved to avoid it.
However, the Camry driver lost control and struck Debra Jackson while she was walking back to her car. Paramedics pronounced Jackson dead at the scene, due to the extent of injuries sustained.
The Mustang driver was later identified as 25-year-old Estevan Mora, of Stockton. Officers say Mora showed symptoms of intoxication and was later arrested after a DUI check.
Mora was eventually booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
No words can mend the broken hearts felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Debra Arnette Jackson.
