Judge Rules To End Britney Spears Conservatorship

Months after Britney Spears spoke against her conservatorship an L.A. Superior Court judge ruled to terminate it.

“The conservatorship of the person and estate of Brittany Jean Spears is no longer required,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny declared in court on Friday.

Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, had been her conservator since 2008, with Jodi Montgomery taking over Spears’ personal responsibilities in 2019.

Both Montgomery and Jamie Spears asked to be removed from the conservatorship this year after Britney spoke to a judge in July.

“I’m here to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse,” Spears said in the July court hearing. “Their goal was to make me feel crazy and I’m not.”

As they have in past Britney Spears court hearings, crowds of “Free Britney” protesters gathered at the courthouse Friday, cheering and crying after the judge made their decision.

“Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy,” Spears tweeted after the judge’s decision. “I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen.”

Although the conservatorship is ending, there is a possibility of Spears’ father being investigated for his role in the conservatorship.

“Many people have asked about whether we will continue to investigate Mr. Spears. The answer ultimately is up to my client Britney,” Spears’ lawyer Matthew Rosengart said Friday.
