The L.A. City Council will vote on a COVID-19 vaccine ordinance on Wednesday, affecting restaurants, movie theaters, gyms and malls.
The ordinance was introduced by both Council President Nury Martinez and Councilman Mitch O’Farrell and could potentially be applied to all indoor facilities as soon as Nov. 4.
Martinez and Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer will be speaking on the potential ordinance Wednesday morning, and further detailing what it could entail.
Current county orders have already been applied to indoor and outdoor “mega events,” with indoor arenas requiring proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter events at Staples Center and other indoor music venues. The same applies for outdoor “mega events” such as Dodger games and concerts at the Hollywood Bowl.
“This modified health officer order aligns with the continued need to reduce risk of transmission and increase vaccination coverage,” Ferrer said of the county measures in a Sept. 15 Board of Supervisors meeting. “This is a reasonable path forward that will position us to be better able to break the cycle of surges.”
The daily COVID-19 positive cases and current hospitalizations have continually decreased in L.A. County, both falling under 1,000, as of Tuesday.
