The dead body of 87-year-old Miriam E. Travis was found inside of a freezer in a Riverside home, Sunday.
Travis worked in the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. for 27 years from 1963-1990, spending 11 years in the homicide division.
“Our hearts are broken by this news and the entire LASD family mourns her loss,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in a statement.
The former detective Sgt. was unresponsive to outside communication, which prompted the family to ask Riverside PD for a welfare check in her home.
Upon arrival officers spoke with Travis’ 64-year-old daughter, who was eventually detained after the officers spotted “inconsistencies” in their conversation.
The officers then entered the house, finding Travis’ body inside of a freezer located in the home’s garage.
A cause of death has not been determined and the body is currently undergoing an autopsy.
