Driver Arrested after Multi-Vehicle DUI Crash on Highway 99
MERCED, CA (July 27, 2021) – Tuesday morning, 23-year-old Alexis Ramirez, was arrested after a DUI collision on Highway 99 in Merced.
The crash happened around 1:19 a.m., on the southbound lanes just north of Collier Road.
According to CHP, a 25-year-old man was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram that was attached to a utility trailer, and pulled over to the right shoulder.
The driver exited the vehicle and was checking the connection of the utility trailer. Suddenly, a 2006 Honda Accord, driven by Ramirez, rear-ended the trailer.
Upon impact, the trailer pushed forward, pinning the driver between the truck and the trailer.
Moreover, Ramirez sustained moderate injuries and fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. She was later apprehended in a grass field.
The 25-year-old Manteca man was taken by medics to Memorial Medical Center. He was said to be in critical condition.
Ramirez was eventually booked into jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing bodily injury, and hit-and-run.
