It’s that time of year, when we feature the best weed you can buy on the day dedicated to him that’s not his birthday.
Yes friends, it’s time for our annual Strains of Father’s Day. Our essential list for grabbing the coolest dads the heatest heat this weekend. While the Zalympix offerings might be tricky to get your hands on, everything else should be readily available for your pops.
While we recommended a whole lineup of other presents earlier in the week, this list is dedicated to flower grown exceptionally well by cultivators from all over California.
Biskante
The latest secret weapon from Alien Labs seen above makes its debut across the state this week, with shops affiliated with their partners at Connected getting first dibs. Biskante was our first-place overall winner here at L.A. Weekly for Zalympix. The only categories where it didn’t top the pack were for flavor and visual aesthetic where it was still on the podium in both cases. The aroma is loud and punchy. Reminiscent of a biscotti, but with more of a crisp hashiness with notes from one or those tart fruits with no sweetness in the nose.

The Zalympix entry from LoKey Farms was an absolute stunner that would probably win best in show on many dispensary shelves. We had it as our top pick for the aesthetic quality of the nugs. The shimmers of the trichome heads under the light was a marvelous experience rarely replicated at the quality of Heavy Fog #4. As for genetics, it’s a pairing of PeanutButter Trix x 41SherbBx1. A lot of the wild fuel on the nose comes from the Peanut Butter Breath in the lineage. While we’re thrilled to see who takes home the big prize from Greenwolf next week, any L.A. gas connoisseur needs to put Heavy Fog #4 at the top of their to-do list.

Ember Valley’s Kush Cake @ Circle of Hope Alliance
Without a doubt, Kush Cake is our absolute favorite from the newer crop of genetics at Ember Valley. While the old stuff is still good, including probably the second-best MAC we’ve seen available on the recreational market, Kush Cake’s dessert and fuel blend may be their greatest offering to date so you should certainly head over to Circle of Hope and grab your pops a jar. Also, Circle of Hope has a wild Seed Junky Genetics drop happening next Thursday that includes Gas Face (Face Mints x [Biscotti x Sherb BX]). I bet it’s heat.

Cannabiotix’s Kush Mountains @ Buds and Roses
Kush Mountains is one of Cannabiotix most famous strains, and really got a lot of hype in its sails a few years ago on the award circuit, being credited as one of the top strains of 2018. Cannabiotix paired their White Walker OG and Blue Flame OG to create the Kush Mountains and eventually kept the #4 phenotype from the propagation project. If pops is an OG Kush guy, you can’t go wrong with a jar of Kush Mountains to help him celebrate the day.
